                                   HOOD LIFE

There's was a boy named Malik who lived in Bradly courts in Newark,NJ. He was 15 years old,darkskin,6 feet, and played basketball for Westside High School. Malik had a bestfriend that was also 15 years old. His named was Carl Jackson but they called him CJ. He was lightskin, 5'9, and played basketball for Westside High School as well.

One day Malik was walking with CJ from school and whole bunch of boys walked up to them and did a hand shake with CJ. "Who were those guys, and kind of hand shake was that" Malik said. "oh I know them guys and the hand shake means im reping my hood" he said. Oh Malik said what hood are you? he asked. Cj anwsered that he was grove street, and asked him did he wanna join. Malik thought in his head that wasn't good idea but before he can say now CJ told him that nothing bad was gonna happen. Malik said sure he would join because his bestfriend was in it and he said nothing bad was gonna happen.

The next day after school Malik went to CJ house because they had basketball practice and they were gonna walk to there school together. As he was walking he was thinking why did he gone that gang?, But he was thinking about what CJ said that nothing bad was gonna happen. Malik went in his bookbag and pulled out his basketball and started dribbling it. As he was dribbling he looked at a street sign and seen that CJ lived on grove street. When he seen that street sign he notice that this was the hood CJ was Talking bout. There were people out there with alot of green on and they were all stairing at him like they wanted to kill him. 

When Malik got to CJ house there were four grove street gang members on his porch talking to him. CJ told them that Malik wanted to be down with grove street. They looked at Malik up and down and asked CJ is he ready for this hood life? Malik spoke up and said yes im ready. So when he said that he was ready, CJ and his homies put him in a circle. Malik was looking around scared, and said ''what are you guys doing'?. CJ answered ''oh yea I forgot to tell you to get in you gotta get jumped in''. And before he got to say anything CJ and his boys started pounding on him like he was a punching bag for 30 slow seconds.

After they got done jumping Malik they taught him the handshake and told him the rules of being grove street. One rule was that you have to wear green everyday, two you have to do the handshake to any of your homies that you see or walk pass, three if one of your homies fight you fight, and four the only way you can leave the gang is to die, and five you have to come to come to the hood everyday. Malik thought to his self that this was gonna be easy until something happened to one of his homies.

Malik was walking home from school proud that he was part of a gang until he say one of his boys fighting. Malik ran over there to go fight with him, but it was CJ beating on one of the geeks from our school because he wanted to. Malik stoped him and told him to chill out he didnt do anything to you. CJ pulled back telling malik to mind his on business for he was next and walked away.

When Malik got home he was thinking that this isn't what he wanted to do in a gang. So Malik told himself that he bout to focus on basketball and not this gang life. Malik went in backyard and started practicing because they had a game the tomorrow and he wanted to be ready. Malik was going to play the starting line as shooting guard, The coach told him that they were going to be school scouts at the game and to play your heart out.

The day of the game everybody was there, and even the grove street homies were there. Malik was scared that they were going ask him question so he stayed in the locker room until the game started. Malik was sitting in the locker listening to music and CJ walked in with one of the grove street homies  and asked why haven't he been in the hood and he told them he been business lately. CJ said ok just go when that game today bro. Malik pulled CJ aside real fast to tell him that he was going to live the gang. CJ was mad that he was leaveing because he was suppost to have be his bestfriend and now he is just gonna leave.
